Red River

This piece is woven with a vintage cotton warp and both cotton and wool in the weft, all sourced second hand, and is hung on two brass rods. It is a sister weaving of Ebb and Flow, in that the weaving pattern is broken up and flows in a non-linear fashion across the weft, almost like a splash of dye on a canvas. The broken twill pattern appears in bursts – more apparent in certain spots and disappearing in others, bringing another dimension to the weaving.

As always, many hours of repetitive movement and reflection are entwined in the cloth and with this comes all the small imperfections and irregularities that are tied to the hands that made it.

Woven on Janet, my Belgian table loom, in November 2022.
