Works in Progress is an exhibition of textile art by Lucie Panis-Jones which explores the timelessness of repetition of line and structure. Handwoven and patchworked pieces made from upcycled, second hand and vintage materials invite us to take a moment to consider the imperfect nature of handmade things, and appreciate the qualities that the inextricable bond between the artist’s hands and the imprints they make bring to the final piece.

Other available pieces

Bags
Big and sturdy bags designed to last
My mom asked me to make her a patchwork bag four years ago from our old family clothing… Ever since I made that first one I’ve been on a quest to make *the* perfect bag, and I think this design is pretty darn close.
Each bag is made entirely from scrap fabric I receive from various local dressmakers and mills and is therefore completely unique. I carefully sort, wash and organise the scraps before I start. I then create a composition and sew pieces together, slowly building it up until it’s the right size, and do the same for the lining. I often try and use the fabric scraps in their original state – I find this often leads to more interesting shapes and structures.

I still have a few bags available for purchase, please click on the image to see more information about each piece.

Cushions
Handwoven & patchwork cushions
Each one is woven, sewn and assembled by me in the studio – no two are the same. Plus, each cushion always features a different fabric for the back, so it’s like having two cushions in one : )
Sometimes I’ll weave yardage specifically for cushions because I have a particular idea or design in mind that I want to bring to life, but I’ll often make these using leftover fabric from test weaves or leftover yardage from woven art.
I have a few available for puchase below, please click on each image for more information.

Quilts
Timeless pieces to treasure for a lifetime
Ever since I made my first quilt three years ago, I’ve been hooked on this labour of love. Quilts somehow feel hefty and weighty, and yet soft and delicate… Wrapping yourself in a handmade quilt feels like receiving a big hug.
