A handwoven textile famed in kiaat. The yellow cotton is all leftover (and these truly are the last pieces of it) from my bachelor’s in Textile design graduation project. I saved the thrums (the leftover bits of warp yarn) and held on to them for years, just in case I could use them for something special… I carefully sorted them from pale to saturated and pale again, creating a gradient reminiscent of the sun rising.
This was woven in an overshot pattern on Janet, my 16 shaft table loom, as a part of the Overshot sketch series, 2023.
Materials: linen warp, linen and cotton weft.
The weaving is shadow mounted and framed in Kiaat, and encased with museum glass (museum glass provides 70% protection from UV rays and is less reflective than normal glass, providing a clearer viewing experience).
Dimensions of the weaving : 39 x 42.5 cm (including fringe)
Dimensions of the frame : 38 x 49 cm
